Average American Speaks at Tea Party

This is the speech I gave for the Berlin, New Hampshire Tax Day Tea Party on April 15th, 2009. For a small town, we didn't do to badly, we had 75 to 80 people in attendence and a lot of honking horns from passing vehicles. We got a picture, but no write-up in the local paper. This was sort of a last minute affair and I was just hoping for at least 2 to 3 dozen people, so I was happy. My neighbor was supposed to have pictures for me, but I couldn't wait any longer to post this. Maybe I'll add them later if I ever get them. Below, at the very bottom, is the front page picture from the local paper. I know the paper doesn't show 75 people, but there were a lot out of the camera's view. I personally handcounted 75 and a few had to leave early. Click on it for a full page view with the caption underneath.

Good afternoon and welcome to the Berlin New Hampshire tea party. Many of you are probably wondering, "what am I doing here?" "Can we actually make a difference by doing this?""Why a Tea Party?" Let me try to answer these questions, starting with the last one first.

Why a tea party?

Remember back in school learning about the Boston Tea Party? Our founding fathers had major problems with England back in the 1760’s and 1770’s. Our mother country was insisting on taxing us, but did not give us any representation back in England. To make a long story short, in 1773, there were 7 British ships loaded with tea waiting to be unloaded. Charlestown, Philadelphia, and New York each refused to accept the shipments and turned their ships around to head back to England, unloaded. Four ships scheduled to leave their cargo in Boston were detained for over 2 weeks. On Dec 16th, 1773, approximately 7,000 patriots held a meeting to air their grievences. Things got heated and 130 to 180 men left that meeting and proceeded to the harbor where they ceremoniously dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor. It took a while longer for the actual armed revolution to arrive, but this one incident was the Birth, or maybe conception would be more accurate, of the United States of America as we know it.

Is there a correlation between then and now? Yes, I believe there is. In 1773, there was definitely taxation without representation, but so is there today. The mountains of debt being created today will be left for many generations to pay. Many, if not most, of the people who will be stuck paying this debt ARE NOT EVEN BORN YET!! I stand here representing my great grandchildren and proclaim on their behalf, "NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!!"

Can we actually make a difference?

Well, I think we can or I would not be wasting my time here. We will see shortly how much news attention we get from this. Bear in mind that there are well over 1000 of these parties going on tonight plus many have already been held. I feel absolutely positive that if we have decent turnouts, especially in the bigger cities, some politicians will listen. They don't ALL have to listen, only enough to make a difference. As the temporary resident of the White House has said many times, "yes we can!" I very much appreciate all of you for being here and I would like to ask you to do a couple of more very important things. Mail a tea bag, or an empty one, or a picture of one to the President and our representatives and our senators. Don’t be afraid to add a short note and if you have youngsters, maybe you could have THEM draw the picture of a tea bag. Let the unrepresented have their say. The other thing I ask of you is to start making pests of yourselves. Call, write, or e-mail these people on every single issue that comes up. Get 10, or even more, of your friends to do the same! Make them aware of how many of us are finally watching them. Let them know we are awake, we will be staying awake, and we are REALLY PISSED-OFF!

What am I doing here?

I expect that many are here for the same reason I am. I am sick and tired of our representatives sticking their hands deep down in my pockets and then spending my hard-earned money like drunken sailors. I think it was atrocious for them to spend $700 BILLION to bailout the banks and auto manufacturers. I deplore them passing a $787 BILLION stimulus package full of bullshit give-a-ways and pork-barrel projects, without even taking the time to read the package they were signing their names to! I can’t believe how badly they screwed up those bailouts and then pointing fingers at everyone and everything but themselves for it. Several banks are actually trying to give back their bailout money and our treasury is refusing to accept it or dragging their feet on accepting it. What is up with that? Since when did the POTUS get the right to manage private companies? When did he get the right to hire or fire employees for these companies? And now they are about to pass a $3.7 TRILLION, yes you heard that right, TRILLION dollar budget. That is almost 50% higher than any budget in history. That will not be our money, not our kids money, not even our grandkids money. That money will have to be paid back by great-great grandkids. Do we want to put that debt on our UNBORN offspring? I do NOT!

Now here's a suggestion on where they might want to start saving some cash. I’m sick and tired of those same politicians ignoring the 67% of Americans who are DEMANDING that they do something about our porous borders. They refer to “12 million” illegals being here. It used to be “12 to 20 million” and that was years ago. My bet is that the number is now closer to 30 million, or about 10% of the country. That is 10% mostly not paying taxes, BUT using at least 10% of our services. Send every illegal alien back home where they belong and automatically cut at least 10% right off the top of government expenses, and therefore taxes needed, and cut our unemployment in half at the same time. Want to stimulate the economy, get the people out of here that don’t belong here.

AA,
Well, well. The trained soldier shows his eloquence. Not bad for someone trained to break things and kill people. Well done, brother.

Good on ya Joe, well done.

"Many, if not most, of the people who will be stuck paying this debt ARE NOT EVEN BORN YET!"

And some people still think that one can reason with the left on matters like abortion. They care so little for those that are almost born, why would they give a rats ass if some are born with thousands in debt.

"Can we actually make a difference?"

You must at least try as one cannot always know the outcome of resistance until you actually resist. Besides, it's not like you have much else to lose and everything to gain.

"That is 10% mostly not paying taxes, BUT using at least 10% of our services."

Yep, services you cannot afford now and are running into debt to provide.

You are right, we are todays extremists, if you go by the crap set forth by the leftist morons.. ..If you look at the way Obama beams at those America haters you would see that ..Rush is right..Obama believes he will make our "evil country" into a socialist utopia that these demagogues will admire. Obama, Ortega, Rev Wright, Chavez, Castro and Louis Farrakhan are all cut from the same hate America cloth..
PS I got your link from another blog where I admired your comment.

Shoprat, thank you.

Coppurr, thank you, Let's hope this new wave of excitement continues and grows expotentially.

No Blog, thank you for visiting and commenting. I stopped by and checked out your non-blog and must say, you have a good idea. Let those who want to blog do it. We need people like you to give us a reason to continue.

Chuck, thank you.

L&O Teacher, thank you. I don't profess to be an expert, but I do have a good idea how I feel and can manage to express those feelings.

MK, thank you for your unwavering support. I believe it is NOT to late to make a difference, IF we pull together and do NOT give in to the mindset that we don't count. WE DO COUNT.

No Blog, they call us "extremists", but truth be known, it is THEY who are the extremists. THEY are the ones taking government spending to the extremes. And it will be THEM who will have no choice but to bring taxation to the extremes also. Another extreme is the amount of America bashing that NObama has been doing all over the world. Just how UN-AMERICAN can one get?

Brooke, thank you. We can only hope and pray that we can band together fast enough to end this insanity before it reaches the point of being irreversible.

I joined a local Meetup group that first centered around Glenn Beck's 9-12 project, then they did the Tea Party in Cleveland, and are continuing to plan events and meetings. The Tea Party is a great start, but we have to keep it up.

You did great, Joe, on your speech, very well done!

Seriously, I think what we have now is WORSE than taxation without representation, considering the fact that the dough-heads we send to DC blatantly refuse to listen to those of us who put them there.

Unless, of course, they were put there by that segment of the population that has every reason to KEEP them there, while not contributing one red cent to their own care and upkeep, instead expecting the rest of us to do it for them.

Unfortunately, that is one of the failures of our system: Allowing those who do NOT contribute a vote about what the money should be spent on (i.e., themselves).

Love it, Joe, and keep up the AWESOME work!

Great speech; now you've been noticed and you might just find yourself a local focal point whenever other issues come into play. BTW, if that's you, I really like your jacket.

Congrats, I wish I was able too also. But I was under the weather a bit...so to say

Beth, thank you. You are 100% correct, we have to keep the ball rolling. Glad to see you and many others getting involved also.

Angel, it sure is crazy. I can not even fathom what makes the leftist minds tick.

Angie Lee, yes, it goes way beyond just the economic mess they are exacerbating by their reckless spending spree. All those dollars being thrown around are the means to buy more votes. Just about everything they do can be traced back to Socialism. NObama and his minions are control freaks of the grandest order. The koolaid drinkers really don't have a clue what they have done to this country by votijng for him. They call us radical, but it is THEY who are the radical ones.

BZ, yes, I am afraid that my neck is on the chopping block in good shape. I have never been the type to keep my yap shut and I guess I never will. I look forward to the next party. The jacket belongs to a friend and fellow coordinator of our rally. He actually got the ball rolling. I was the right arm.

Tapline, thank you. The gestapo got very worried over these tea parties and for good reason. I have been saying since the 15th that there were over 1000 parties and over 1,000,000 participants and today, I got an e-mail from Newt confirming the crowd size. He used "at least 850 parties", but I know I am right.

I'm here to say it, thank you very much. Don't feel bad about missing this one. Just make up for it. Write, call, or e-mail your representatives and the POTUS on every issue that you have strong feelings about, and try to make the next party. Most likely, your hometown will have something on July 4th.

IMO, Angie Lee is right on target. When legislators pass legislaiton without first reading the bill, or (heaven forbid) refusing to debate its provisions, then we are NOT represented in Congress. Ergo, taxation without representation.

AA ... an excellent summary of your tea party. Our group here is putting together another one for July 4th. I intend to participate in this one, too ... unless by then we are all in jail for being right-wing extremists.

Excellent speech!! I'm glad your small town of Berlin, New Hampshire was able to have a tea party!! Every Voice Counts - we might think it makes a big difference - but all of our voices combined together does make a difference!!! Keep up the good fight!!!

oops sorry, made a typo - I meant to say "we might think it DOESN'T makes a big difference - but all of our voices combined together DO make a difference!!!"

Angie Lee, you're turning me all bright red. Thank you so much and HUGS back at cha!

Mustang, thank you, just doing my little part. Passing stuff without reading it is taxation withour deliberation! That is the worst kind of wasteful spending. It shows just how uncaring they really are. I fully expect to keep doing whatever I can to wake up some more of the silent majority. I don't think they have enough jails to lock all of us up, although there are conspiracy theorists who claim they are secretly building some huge holding pens for us.

Mike, that is a great idea, at least one friend! I can envision the 4th of July parties being HUGE! I believe we had at least a million this time, and I would not be a bit surprised to see 10 to 20 million next time, unless things take a 180 REAL SOON!

Red Head, thanks for dropping by! You have a great blog going girl, keep up the good work. Also, THANK YOU for your service to our great country! You're right, the leftists bitch at the "drop of a hat!" It sure doesn't take much to rile them up. I think they were really surprised at how well these parties came together and they are REALLY AFRAID of what might be in store for them, and they should be!

Red Voice, thank you. Oh, we definitely do make a difference. As far as I am concerned, we have just begun to fight! With everyone pitching in 100%, we can win back the Senate or the House next year and that alone will squash most of messiah's fun. I sure hope that Senator Reid, Dodd and Frank(if he is up for reelection) all get "FIRED!" Add that dumb wicked bitch of the west in the House (my name for Piglosi-er-I mean Pelosi)to the list of losers, and we stand a chance of recovering some ground. Then dump the halfrican in 2012 to really start getting the right (pun intended) kind of "change."

Congrats on the great speech. I do agree with you that there is a correlation between the tea party in 1773 and the current ones. Our interests are not being represented in Washington.Nobody is there looking out for us.

Average American said...

PE, we will have to change that next fall. If we do not let up on this tea party revolt thing, we can do it.

"YES WE CAN!" to quote a socialist and temporary occupant of the White House.

I'm SO proud of yoU! GOOD GOING, Average!
And, I have to say I'm envious of that idyllic town square you're standing in. The only book I ever wrote half of (never finished it or any other, by the way) had to do with a town square in an Eastern Seaboard city...

The speech was perfect.
I'll add that, IF WE KEEP UP THE HEAT WITH MORE PARTIES AND MORE DEMONSTRATIONS, we have a chance at still being hot and ready and convincing for 2010. THAT is the MOST important thing can do, don't you think?
Actually, it's all we've got..cuz nobody's listening to us YET!
sorry I got here so late..this was terrific.

Would have loved to have seen a video clip of the speech! Well done.

Z, thanks for the kudos. I love this town. It was and still is a fantastic place to raise kids. A real nice small town atmosphere, but only three hours or so from Boston. That's close enough for me!

We will do something, probably the 4th of July. Waiting to see what the rest of the country is planning. I have NO intentions of dropping the ball now. I am already looking forward to 2010. I fully expect that if we can keep the silent majority awake, we CAN take back either the House or the Senate, who knows, maybe even both! In the mean time, and I really stressed this at the tea party, it is vitally important to call, write, or e-mail our representatives on EVERY issue that is important to us. If that means daily or more---so be it!

Wordsmith, thanks! I will try to film the next event. I myself do not have the equipment to do it, but you are right, it would have been nice to have it. I'd love to see myself on Youtube! Imagine, little old me---a celebrity! Who'd a thunk it? Move over Glenn Beck!
