VETERAN'S DAY 2012

May you all have a blessed and memorable Veteran's Day 2012.  Today is the one day of the year, more than any other day, to reflect on just how how much sacrifice is and was offered up by America's veterans and current service members, AND their families.  Please, please, please thank as many vets today as you possibly can.  You have absolutely no idea how much vets will appreciate such a small token of your appreciation.  Those few words are no small thing to the ears of someone who gave more than you can imagine for you and your way of life.  It really does mean the world to them.

Would you like to go a step further?  How about buying that vet you ran into a coffee, maybe even a lunch?  Spend a short while just chatting.  Visit an "Old Soldiers Home."  If you stop by your local VFW or American Legion post in the early afternoon hours, you will probably meet up with many vets.  Thank every one of them and shake their hands.  Put a smile on their faces.  Do you have veteran friends or relatives?  CALL them!  Thank them today!  Today of all days, every time you say "Thank you for your service" your heart will swell and you will feel all the better for it.  You will get almost as much out of it as the vet you thanked.  Don't believe me, try it, and prove it to yourself.  How many vets can you Thank today?  Set a realistic goal and then meet---or surpass it.  From the bottom of my heart, Thank You!

Every Veterans Day since 2006, which marks the first time that Mr. AOW was thanked for his service during the Vietnam Era, he brings up the fact that his service was pretty much ignored by most people. He served state side from 1971-1973.

Today, Mr. AOW did a Veterans Day post and mentioned that first time he was thanked.

As modest as veterans typically are, they DO appreciate being thanked for their service.

Hi, AA!

Very good idea you have. I don't like to say "Thank you for your service," because it sounds so stilted and contrived, although it's a helluva lot better than saying something nasty or saying nothing at all.

I'd rather say, "Thank you for the sacrifices you made on our behalf" -- "Thank you for the risks you took to help keep us free" -- "Thank you for your help that made it possible for my children to continue to attend school, and our family to enjoy our home and each other."

I miss seeing you at FreeThinke's blog, AA. Try not to be a stranger. Your comments are always encouraging to me.

Please don't give up blogging. It may be a small thing, but at least it's an effort in the right direction.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you, AA!

I for one, am glad that you are not ordinary. I apologize for singling you out post-election.

We're all Americans. I totally would love to be your friend.
